Case championship "BIM in the big city"

On April 7, 2019, the final of the All-Russian case championship was held, organized jointly by the Metropolis company and NRU MGSU.

At the last stage, the teams presented their work on the topic "Information Modeling of City Objects" under the slogan "BIM in the Big City".

More than 60 teams - 380 people - applied for participation. However, only 16 teams (100 people) completed the first task of the case. Only 5 teams passed to the second stage, and these are 35 people. In the full-time final stage, 4 universities fought in the skill of defending their project.

Throughout all stages of the project development, the team members were consulted by experts from the Metropolis company. Consultations were held via skype twice a week, where students could ask and discuss all the necessary questions and fundamental decisions on their projects.

The team of Metropolis experts who provided advice and support to students included:

    1. Fyodor Isaev, Chief Structural Engineer
    2. Svetlana Parkhomenko, Head of BIM Technology department
    3. Sergey Bryuzgin, Head of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning department
    4. Evgeny Skripka, Head of Water Supply, Sewerage and Fire-Fighting Systems department
    5. Sergey Sokolov, Chief Specialist of Water Supply, Sewerage and Fire-Fighting Systems department
    6. Marina Egorenkova, Head of Construction Management Plan department

For the convenience of interaction, a cloud storage was organized, where any of the experts from Metropolis or NRU MGSU, as well as a participant in the competition, could at any time view the project and BIM model of each of the teams, as well as leave their comments and recommendations.

Participants were given 5 weeks to solve the case. The approaches of the teams were completely different, the works differed in architectural and constructive solutions, the resources used, the technology for demonstrating and protecting the material, the quality of the information model (based on the results checked for collisions). And in the final presentation one could feel the sincere interest of the participants in the victory.

The jury of the last (in-person) stage of the championship included:

    1. Fyodor Isaev, Chief Structural Engineer at Metropolis
    2. Svetlana Parkhomenko, Head of BIM Technology department at Metropolis
