On November 2, the Pavilion №19 “ATOM” opened at VDNKh in Moscow. The opening was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Kiriyenko, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and General Director of «Rosatom» State Corporation Alexei Likhachev. The opening of the complex is timed to coincide with the start of the International exhibition and forum "Russia".
The Metropolis team worked on the design of internal engineering systems at the Concept and Design Documentation stages. As part of these works, Metropolis was involved in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, water supply and sanitation systems, power supply, communications and alarm systems, automation and dispatching, and also participated in the organization of construction.
The pavilion was created with “Rosatom” support and opened on a renovated site; it is now located on the Main Alley of VDNKh and is a completely new building with three underground and four above-ground floors. The building area is more than 25 000 m². The author of the architectural concept is UNK project.
“This is a truly great event. Such facilities are rarely introduced in the country. I believe that it is one of the unique objects of museum culture, education, and technology built in our country over the last decade”, - said Sergei Sobyanin.
He also emphasized that when discussing the projects for the future pavilion, it was chosen “the most complex and the most incredible project”. This project came true exactly as planned. “It looks even cooler than it seemed on the drawings and booklets! I congratulate you on the opening of the pavilion. This is a big deal for VDNKh, Moscow, and our country”, said the mayor.
The exhibition inside the pavilion is built as a journey from the past of nuclear energy through the present to its future, so it is best to start viewing the exhibition from the underground floors. In the “past” zone you can see the atmosphere of Soviet scientific laboratories recreated to the smallest detail, as well as the interiors of Soviet and American citizens during the Cold War.
In the “present” visitors will learn about the global state of nuclear energy.
The organizers of the exhibition associate the future of nuclear energy and science in general with the younger generation, so on the floor above the “Modern Nuclear Industry” there is the “Atomarium” - an interactive zone with a scientific and educational laboratory where you can work with real equipment.
The scientific and technological exhibition complex was built from 2017 to 2023. It is built in a science center format and is intended for both a general audience and professionals. The new pavilion can accommodate more than two thousand visitors at a time.
Until April 12 2024 you can visit the Pavilion №19 “Atom” for free.
